As recommended, MalwareBytes has been installed again and removed using the instructions referred to. Sadly the situation is unchanged.

I shall now be away from my Mac for a fortnight.

@apGwallter,

But have you confirmed if the Malware Bytes has been completely removed from the manufacturer/vendor?

Keep me posted once you are back.

Cheers!

Thank you for your helpful advice. While I am away from my machine it would be of great help to clarify one or two issues.
1. Is there any evidence that the Scanjet 200 does operate successfully under OS X 10.14?
2. Is there any evidence that Malwarebytes can hinder proper operation? Given that Laetitiap (https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Scanning-Faxing-and-Copying/Scanjet-200-can-t-be-found-since-MacOS-Moj...) has never installed MalWarebytes on their machine, it might appear that the question is irrelevant.

I am prepared to accept that OS X 10.14/HP can no longer support this scanner, in which case it would help me to know for certain, so that I can look for another.

With Windows (7 & 10) it was easy: just download the driver, and way you go!

Thank you for your patience.

@apGwallter,

We have seen sometimes the ports getting blocked by antivirus (when connected using USB)and wanted to know for sure it was not the case here.

This issue needs some additional technical assistance that can be better provided through one-on-one interaction with our HP Support team.

I request you to contact them for further support.
