Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).
Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

I have a Scanjet 4850 in new condition. I cannot find an HP app to run it. The software on the disk won't install as it is old. Everything I find points me to HP Smart, but there is no way to add a scanner to HP Smart that I can find. I can use a third party app like VueScan but I want to run it with HP software. VueScan, a paid license app, has not trouble scanning negatives, so HP must be able to do this since it is their scanner. This is a photo scanner capable of scanning negatives so the Windows scanning app is useless for negatives.

Please advise.

It will work in WIN XP maybe on WIN 7, and you will have full features for scanning later OS doesn't support that scanner model due to old age.

Thanks. I will throw it away.

If you need to scan negatives don't throw it away, new scanners that are supported in new OS that can scan negatives are very expensive. It's cheaper to get older laptop with XP.
