Step 1: Install the Software

1. Install the Software:

   • For Windows: Insert the HP Photosmart CD into your CD-ROM drive. If the installation dialog box doesn’t appear, navigate through Start > Run, and type D:\setup.exe (replace D: with your CD drive letter).
   • Click "Install Software" and follow the on-screen instructions.

2. Macintosh Users:

   • Insert the HP Photosmart CD, and a CD icon will appear on the desktop. Double-click this icon to start the installation.
   • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the software installation.

Step 2: Connect the Hardware

1. Connect the Power Supply:

   • Attach the power supply cable to the back of the scanner and the AC cable to a power outlet or surge protector.

2. Connect the USB Cable:

   • Use the USB cable provided with the scanner to connect it to the computer. The square end of the cable should connect to the scanner and the rectangular end to the computer.

Step 3: Download and Install the Driver for Windows 7 Users

If you're using Windows 7, you can download the Vista Full Feature Software and Driver created for a compatible product:

1. Go to HP Support and navigate to the Drivers & Software section.
2. Search for "HP Scanjet G3010 Photo Scanner".
3. Select your language and Windows 7 as the operating system.
4. Locate and download the full feature software under the Driver section.

This download helps provide scanning capabilities, including scanning pictures, documents, and using the transparent materials adapter for slides and negatives.
