My scanned docs are coming out with a gray background.  How can I change that to a white background?

What fixes the problem depends on what is causing it.

 

For example, if you have the scan color / exposure adjusted too far one way or the other, then more or less ink is thrown onto the page -- too far one way or the other and things start to wash out or might look dingy. 

 

Try setting the exposure to Auto Exposure

 

For example:

Download, save, and Install:  HP Scan Extended > Save as PDF > More >

category Image > Check Auto Exposure > OK > Scan
