Hi @911S,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like there might be an issue with the communication between your computer and the HP Officejet Pro 8600 specifically when scanning from PowerPoint 2010 (which I assume you're referring to as "Powerpoint 14" due to its version number).

Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

  • Restart your computer and printer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve communication issues between devices.
  • Check printer connections: Ensure that all cables connecting your printer to the computer are securely plugged in. If you're using a wireless connection, ensure that your printer is connected to the same network as your computer.
  • Update printer drivers: Visit the HP website and make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your Officejet Pro 8600. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause communication problems.
  • Check printer settings: Open the Control Panel on your computer, go to Devices and Printers, right-click on your HP Officejet Pro 8600, and select Printer Properties. Check if the printer is set as the default printer and if it's set to online mode.
  • Disable firewall/antivirus: Sometimes, firewall or antivirus software can block communication between devices. Temporarily disable them and try scanning again to see if the issue persists.
  • Reinstall printer drivers: If updating the drivers didn't help, try uninstalling the printer drivers completely from your computer and then reinstalling them.
  • Test with another scanning software: Install and test with another scanning software to see if the issue is specific to PowerPoint or if it's a broader problem with your scanner.
  • Check for Windows updates: Make sure your operating system is up to date by checking for and installing any available Windows updates.

Hopefully, one of these steps helps resolve the issue with scanning from PowerPoint.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
