HP Easy Scan says "No Scanner Selected." I click "Browse Scanners" and nothing is there.
I am running MacOS 15.3 which is up-to-date. My HPOJ Pro 8620 All-in-One firmware is up-to-date. I downloaded today the HP Easy Start and installed HP Utility and HP Easy Scan. My HP8620 is connected to my router with an ethernet cable. I can print and copy.
I don't scan or print often. It was a week or two ago that I successfully did from my MacBook without the HP Easy Start/Scan/Utility software or any updates. I have tried powering my MacBook, HP8620, and even the router down multiple times (and walking away for periods of time before restarting each. Nothing is helping.
Please help...

Hi @Saturn4,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your scanner not being listed!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Since your HP OfficeJet Pro 8620 is not being detected as a scanner in HP Easy Scan but still prints and copies, here are some troubleshooting steps to fix the issue:
1. Check Connection & Restart Devices
- Since your printer is connected via Ethernet, verify that it's properly connected to the same network as your MacBook.
- Restart your MacBook, Printer, and Router in this order:
- Turn off your printer and unplug it from power for 1 minute.
- Restart your MacBook.
- Restart your router.
- Turn on the printer and reconnect it to the network.
2. Remove and Re-add the Printer
- Open System Settings → Printers & Scanners.
- Select your HP 8620, click Remove (-).
- Click Add Printer (+) and re-add it.
3. Use Apple’s Built-in Scanner Tool
- Open Preview on your Mac.
- Click File → Import from Scanner → Select HP 8620.
- If it appears and scans, HP Easy Scan might be the issue.
4. Reset HP Easy Scan & Reinstall
- Delete HP Easy Scan Preferences:
- Open Finder → Go → Go to Folder.
- Type: ~/Library/Containers/
- Locate com.hp.EasyScan and delete it.
- Reinstall HP Easy Scan:
- Uninstall HP Easy Scan.
- Download the latest version from the Mac App Store or HP's website.
- Restart your Mac and try scanning again.

5. Use Apple Image Capture
- Open Image Capture from Applications.
- Select your HP 8620 from the list.
- Try scanning a document.
6. Check for HP Scan Driver
- Open HP Smart (if installed) → Printer Settings.
- Look for an option to enable or reinstall the HP Scan driver.
7. Reset the Printing System (Last Resort)
- Go to System Settings → Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click on the printer list and select Reset Printing System.
- This will remove all printers; re-add your HP 8620 afterward.
If none of this work, the issue may be with HP’s driver compatibility with macOS 15.3, and you may need to wait for an updated HP driver. Let me know if you need more help! 😊
