"A problem with the scanner has been detected.  Restart the printer and then try to scan again.  If the problem persists, select get more help" Which I did but got no help! 

I restarted printer... no luck

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

Check Connections:

  • Ensure all cables (power, USB, network) are securely connected.
  • If using a USB connection, try using a different USB port or cable.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Check for any available firmware updates for your printer model on the HP Support website.
  • Download and install any updates that may be available.

Check for Error Messages:

  • Look for any error messages on the printer’s display panel. If there are any, note them down as they may provide more specific information.

Perform a Factory Reset:

  • Go to the printer's control panel:
    • Navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults.
  • Confirm the action and follow any prompts.

Advanced Troubleshooting

Check the Scanner Unit:

  • Open the scanner lid and ensure there’s nothing blocking the scanner glass or the document feeder.
  • Clean the scanner glass and the white strip underneath the lid with a soft, lint-free cloth.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the HP website. It can help diagnose and fix scanning issues.

Check Software Installation:

  • Ensure that you have the latest version of the HP Smart app or the HP printer drivers installed on your computer.

Reset the Printing System (for Mac users):

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click (or Control-click) in the printer list and choose Reset printing system. Then, re-add your printer.
