We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

The printer is great, but the scanner has failed.  All suggested options have been done to no avail so last option is to change out the scanner.  Suggestions?

Thank you for sharing the details. The HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 is a reliable model, but when the scanner stops responding even after all standard troubleshooting, it usually points to a hardware failure in the scanner assembly.

Before replacing any parts, please try these final checks to confirm the issue:

 

1. Power Reset (Full Hardware Reset)

Turn off the printer.

Disconnect the power cable from the printer and the wall outlet.

Wait 60 seconds.

Plug directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).

Turn the printer back on and try scanning.

 

2. Check for Scanner Light Movement

Lift the scanner lid and press Copy on the control panel.

If the scanner bar does not move or makes grinding/clicking noises → hardware failure.

 

 3. Update / Reinstall Firmware

Sometimes scanner firmware gets corrupted.

Go to HP Smart → Printer Settings → Advanced Settings (EWS) → Tools → Printer Updates.

Or manually update the firmware from HP’s site.

 

4. Try Scanning from Different Paths

Test these:

HP Smart app → Scan

Windows Fax & Scan

Embedded Web Server (EWS) → Scan to Computer
If none of them work, the issue is internal.
