I configured an HP Officejet 8600 to scan to Email with Microsoft 365.  The setup worked but it takes about 2 minutes to connect and start the scan.  Before you answer this:

  • It is not the document or size of the document.
  • It is a simple 1 page test.
  • The scanner glass reads "Connecting..." for about 2 minutes then starts to scan.

Most likely this is a network setting issue and it is taking the printer time to actually find the mail server. Check your DNS settings (the DNS server converts the name of the mail server you have entered into an IP address) Try using Google DNS server which is 8.8.8.8.

I believe that it is a Network issue and DNS, I configured DNS and included it on the next reply but it is no faster.
