For the last three weeks, when I scan through the document feeder, the scans are not captured. I get a message that says the scanner could not read. The documents are placed correctly in the document feeder.
If I scan from the glass it works.
How can I fix this? (Running the Diagnostic tool says every thing is fine.
Thanks in Advance

Hi @johngies,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Clean the ADF Strip
There’s a small narrow strip of glass to the left of the main scanner glass (under the ADF lid). That’s where the ADF reads documents.
Do this:
Turn off and unplug the printer
Open the ADF cover
Use a lint-free cloth with a bit of glass cleaner (spray on the cloth, not directly)
Wipe the ADF scanner strip thoroughly
Let it dry for a minute before closing
Even a tiny smudge can confuse the scanner!
Check ADF Rollers
Make sure nothing’s stuck in the paper path
Gently clean the rollers (gray rubber parts) inside the feeder using a damp cloth
Let them dry fully
Update Firmware & Drivers
Kindly refer to this link to update your printer firmware.
Reset the Printer
Unplug the printer while it’s ON
Wait for 1–2 minutes
Plug it back in
This clears internal memory glitches that sometimes affect the ADF.
Try Scanning via HP Smart
Use the HP Smart app
Choose Document Feeder in the scanning source
Try scanning a few pages again
I hope this helps.

Thank you Kuroi,
I tried all of the above. Firmware is up to date. I cleaned ADF and Rollers. I unplugged while power is on. Still not scanning from document feeder.
Are the other things i might try?
Thanks again,
John

@johngies, I see you were interacting with @Kuroi_Kenshi however, he's away for now and I'd love to help you out!
Thanks for giving all those steps a solid try — I know it can be frustrating when everything seems clean and updated, yet the ADF still refuses to cooperate.
Since the scanner glass works fine but the ADF doesn’t capture anything, we might be dealing with either a failing ADF sensor or a hidden obstruction the diagnostics can’t detect.
Here are a couple more things you can try:
1. Check ADF Light Activation:
Place a page in the feeder, start a scan, and peek inside (briefly!) — do you see any light activity under the ADF strip? If not, the feeder sensor or light source might be malfunctioning.
2. Try a Standalone Copy from ADF:
Without using a PC, place a document in the ADF and hit the copy button directly from the printer’s control panel. If that also fails, it’s definitely a hardware issue with the ADF.
3. ADF Calibration (Hidden Reset):
Sometimes, a semi-hidden ADF calibration can be triggered:
Open the ADF lid
Hold down the Power and Cancel button for 3–5 seconds
Let it reset and then try scanning again
If none of these work, you may be looking at a hardware fault in the ADF sensor itself.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi Zoey,
Thank you for your help. I've been away for a bit.
1) There is a pinkish light under the ADF strip
2) I an make copies from ADF
3) I can only see a power button following this step.
If I have to replace this part i will need professional help. What do you know about the cost for that? @$139 a new Printer is almost as good?
Thoughts?
