I'm having an issue with the scanning feature on my HP Photosmart 5520 printer. About a year ago the wireless connectivity went out, so I was forced to use the USB cable between the printer and the computer. Then yesterday, I was scanning things in and, after about 10 pages, it wouldn't finish the scan. It gave me a 'scanner unreachable error' So I checked the cords, and powered off everything before trying again. That solved the issue, but only for about 10 more scans. I tried the process again, but it didn't work. So I uninstalled and reinstalled the printer, and it corrected the issue. Again, for about 10 scans. I can't figure out how to do more than a temporary fix for the issue, and the other 2 features still work (printing and copying) Any one have any experience with this kind of issue or any suggestions for a permanent fix?

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.
- When was the last time the printer was working fine?
- Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?

The scanner was working fine the last time I used it, probably a month or so ago. There haven't been any changes on the computer.
The article did help, thank you. Mainly because, even though I had attempted most of the first few steps, once I attempted to use the scan doctor, I couldn't get it to finish the commincatino with the scanner. So, I found a 3rd cable and it seems to have fixed the issue. Thank you for the help, and hopefully it will continue to function.
