My inkjet GT 5820 has stopped scanning and copying. I've tried uninstalling and reinstlling software, done a hard reboot of the printer and everything listed in the troubleshooting section - with no solution.
I don't know what the issue is, but I see many people have the same issue with different printer models.
I ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor and it doesn't pick up a scanner driver, I don't know what HP did with the software update, but it's clearly effed it up for lots of users...
I know it's not a hardware issue as the scanner light still lights up when it scans, though the scans are blank and copies are like static on TV Screens, though more black than white....
Any helpful solutions will be appreciated.

Then the result looks like that the printer only:
1. can still be used for printing <<< Solution
2. and the scanner is a total failure.
Hope this helps!

Hello @D-CSI ,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
The HP software must be completely uninstalled and removed of the system.
First download only this complete package: "HP DeskJet GT 5820 All-in-One Print and Scan Driver and Accessories ",
1) File name: Full_Webpack-36.2.117-DJ5820_Full_Webpack.exe (78.2 MB)
Next...
- Disconnect printer/scanner from computer- Disable WLAN, WiFi and/or remove the USB or LAN cable.- Do not switch off the printer >> unplug the power cord from the socket!
read Uninstall the HP software, drivers, and apps used with HP printers. - right-click Start, search for "control panel" and open "Programs and Features"
uninstall all HP printer software > via "Programs and Features" - right-click Start, search for "control panel" and open "Devices and Printers"
In the "Devices and Printers" window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.” - Restart the PC
- Close all programs
- Reconnect the printer to the power supply and switch it on (if this does not happen automatically)
- Please note: WLAN has to be deactivated!
- Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo > in folder Downloads click on the Full_Webpack-36.2.117-DJ5820_Full_Webpack.exe.
- The installation was completed successfully, now you must ...
- Restart the PC again
- Now the installation is complete.
Via USB, means wait until the installation asks to connect the printer/scanner.
Document error messages accurately, even better is to take a screenshot of it and upload here.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

HI
Did all the above steps and still no scanner working... Still no driver can be found and if i use the print and scan doctor it says full software isn't installed and takes me to the download easy start software download page....
Why did they try and fix something that isn't broken........
and even with the other software the scanner doesn't work.
i've attached the two pictures here.

Hi,

Are you sure they have followed all the steps?
First read this important information: 3 Reset the printer
Note: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to a wall outlet.
You must be logged in with your admin account.
Repeat all Steps and use
Maybe they are lucky and the scanner is not defective.
The connection type can be changed later.

I was logged in with the admin account. Also I have no idea why the circled part was there.
I've been looking for a solution the entire day and this is the newest issue i've encountered. I have no idea what it means. but it's been stuck like this for the past 30 minutes
I have no idea what twain scan is and i can't find anything on the hp website about it that relates to my printer/scaner

quit the "Print and Scan Doctor..." with the task manager.
Which app for scanning has been installed?
Download User Guide , Page 55
and read here Frequently asked questions (FAQs) , Are other scan apps and tools available?
Did you see Blinking Lights and 'E' Errors ?

So i managed to install the software both USB and web and printing works fine.
Scanning and copying is another story
I looked at the links and pic and none of it helped,
this is what a scan and copy looks like...
doesn't matter which program/app is used to scan
windows 10

This does not looks good!
Make a copy over the "Control Panel", with "Start Copy Color" button.
Manual, page 54 (Adobe Reader), Copy documents.
Result?
