Hi @Maxwel8866

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for flagging this. When your HP 250 mobile scanner says “busy” while the printer works fine, it usually means the scanner interface is blocked by software or connection conflicts.

Let’s gently clear the path and get your scans flowing smoothly again.

1. Restart Everything in the Right Order

  • Power off the printer completely and unplug it from power.
  • Restart your computer.
  • After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in and power it on.
  • Wait until it’s fully idle, then try scanning again.

This clears temporary communication locks between the scanner and the system.

2. Close Any Background Apps That Might Be Holding the Scanner

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  • Look for any apps like HP App, Windows Fax and Scan, Adobe, or other scanning tools.
  • Right-click and choose End Task for each.
  • Then, reopen only the HP App and try scanning again.

3. Check USB or Wireless Connection

  • If using USB, unplug and replug the cable directly into a different USB port (avoid hubs).
  • If using Wi-Fi, ensure the printer is connected to the same network as your PC.
  • Open the HP App, select your printer, and confirm it shows as “Ready”.

4. Run Diagnose & Fix from the HP App

  • Open the HP App on your PC.
  • Select your printer, then go to Printer Settings.
  • Choose Advanced Settings or Tools, then tap Diagnose & Fix.
  • Let it complete the scan and apply any fixes it suggests.

This tool is designed to gently untangle stuck scanner states.

5. Re-add the Printer in Windows

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Select your HP 250 and click Remove.
  • Then click Add device and let Windows rediscover it.
  • Once added, try scanning again through the HP App.

6. Update the HP App and Printer Firmware

  • In the HP App, go to Settings > About and check for updates.
  • Also, under Printer Settings, look for Printer Updates and install if available.

Firmware updates often refresh the scanner’s responsiveness.

If the scanner still shows “busy” after these steps, let’s try scanning from Windows Fax and Scan or Paint to isolate whether the issue is with the app or the scanner interface.
