Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Every once in awhile I get this message: Scanner is currently unavailable. Return Home to check. Name of my printer/scanner says ready with green checkmark. Same thing when I try to scan.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you. 
The "Scanner is currently unavailable. Return Home to check." error on your HP ENVY 6455e All-in-One Printer can occur due to communication issues, outdated drivers, or conflicts with the HP Smart app. Here are some troubleshooting steps to fix it:

Restart the Printer & Computer

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.
  5. Restart your computer.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  2. Open the tool and select your printer.
  3. Click Fix Scanning and follow the on-screen instructions.

Reinstall the Printer Driver

  1. Uninstall the HP printer software:
    • Open Control Panel > Programs and Features.
    • Find HP ENVY 6455e and uninstall it.
  2. Restart your computer.
  3. Download and install the latest HP Smart or Full Feature Software from HP support page.
  4. Reconnect your printer and test scanning.

Check Windows Services

  1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Scroll down to Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
  3. Make sure it's Running and set to Automatic.
  4. If it’s stopped, right-click > Start.

Try Windows Scan App

  1. Press Win + S, type Windows Scan, and open the app.
  2. Try scanning from there instead of HP Smart.

Reset the Printer

  1. Press and hold the Wi-Fi and Cancel buttons together for 5 seconds.
  2. Wait for the printer to restart.
  3. Reconnect it to Wi-Fi and set it up again.
