G4050 scanner does not respond to app-initiated scan. Just stopped working 'out-of-the-blue'. Will scan with button press, but only as JPEG format (any button). Have uninstalled SW and reinstalled "full-solution" several times with no change. HP Print/Scan Doctor fails "Front Panel Test", states "problem with front panel software". Same prob with Win 7 and after Win 10 update.

Thanks for using the HP forum.
Can you try this alternative scan software:
HP Scan Extended
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi
Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"

Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"
