Hi @Sameergkp,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

I understand that you are having issues with scanner error 12.

The "Scanner Error 12" on an HP LaserJet 1005 printer typically indicates that there is an issue with the scanner mechanism or its connection. Here’s how you can troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

Steps to Resolve Scanner Error 12 on HP LaserJet 1005 Printer:

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • Check if the error persists.

Check Scanner Mechanism:

  • Open the printer's lid to access the scanner area.
  • Ensure that there are no visible obstructions or debris that could be interfering with the scanner’s movement.

Reset Scanner Assembly:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the scanner lid and manually move the scanner head gently from left to right and vice versa.
  • Be careful not to force it. The scanner head should move freely.
  • Close the scanner lid, plug in the printer, and turn it back on.

Check Connections:

  • Ensure that all cables connected to the scanner unit and mainboard are securely plugged in. Reseat any loose connections.

Update Firmware (if applicable):

  • Check the HP Support website for any available firmware updates for your HP LaserJet 1005 printer.
  • Follow the instructions provided to download and install the firmware update.

Perform a Cold Reset:

  • A cold reset will restore the printer to its factory default settings, which can sometimes resolve persistent issues.
  • Consult your printer’s manual or visit the HP Support website for instructions specific to your model on how to perform a cold reset.

  • If the above steps do not resolve the issue, there may be a hardware fault with the scanner unit.
  • Contact HP Phone Support or an authorized service provider for further assistance or to schedule a repair.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Please mark this post as Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
