My HP Officejet 5740 reports an error on scanning since I updated my Mac OS to Catalina Version 10.15. I tried loading new drivers and HP Easy Scan downloaded from hp.com. I have reset the printer and reinstalled the software.
During the Add and Verify Your Device step, the printer test completes successfully, but the scan test returns an error message, "The scanner reported an error". Information shows "The overview scan failed to complete".

Hi,
Try using Image Capture to scan for now as a workaround, HP Easy Scan is not currently supported on Catalina:
