We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

I had to install with downloaded software because my work won't allow a personal printer on the network.  Everything works fine except for copy/scan.  It makes the sounds, but the copy or scan is just hundreds of vertical lines.

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the scan/ copy issue. 

 

To better assist you - Are you trying to scan from flatbed or the ADF? 

 

While you respond to that, let's try these steps to reset the printer - 

 

1) Take out the cartridges.

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Wait for 30 seconds. 

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not to a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

 

Update the printer's firmware. Refer to this document for steps - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware 

 

Also, try cleaning the scanner parts. Refer to step# 1 and 2 listed under "Lines or color bands in copies" from this document
