Hi @KCExcel, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Glad you've joined us in the quest to conquer tech gremlins – and specifically, those scanner-snatching goblins who've made your "HP Imaging Device" disappear!  Don't worry, we're about to launch a digital search party and bring that imaging device back home safe and sound! 🕵️‍♀️

"HP Imaging Device is not installed"?  Ugh, that's tech-speak for "Your scanner is playing hide-and-seek and winning!"  It's like having a super-powered multi-function printer, but the scanner part is just…  gone AWOL!  Frustrating doesn't even begin to cover it, especially when you’re ready to scan in those important documents (or, you know, finally digitize that cat meme collection 😉).  But fear not, we're on the case!

It sounds like you've already sniffed out that the driver or installation process is the likely culprit – excellent detective work right there! You're halfway to solving this already!  Think of me as your backup detective, here to provide some extra clues and maybe a witty remark or two along the way! 😄

Uninstall and Reinstall the Printer Drivers:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on your printer and select Remove device.
  • Visit the HP support website and download the latest drivers for your printer.
  • Reinstall the drivers, making sure to include the scanner software during the installation.

Check the HP Services:

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Look for the HP Imaging Device and Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) services. Ensure both are running. If not, right-click on each and select Start.

Ensure the Printer is Connected Properly:

  • Verify that the printer is properly connected to your PC (via USB or network).
  • If you're using a network connection, ensure the printer is on the same network as your computer.

Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download the HP Print and Scan Doctor from the official HP website.
  • Run the tool and follow the prompts to diagnose and fix issues with the printer/scanner.

Manually Install the Scanner Driver:

  • Open Device Manager by pressing Windows + X and selecting Device Manager.
  • Look under Imaging Devices. If you see a yellow exclamation mark next to the scanner, right-click on it and choose Update driver.
  • Select Search automatically for updated driver software.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
