Hi @hemeda ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the issue you're encountering is specifically with the HP Smart app on your Android device, as the scanner works fine with your MacBook.

Here are a few steps to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

1. Update HP Smart App on Android

  • Ensure that the HP Smart app on your Android device is up-to-date. Go to the Google Play Store and check if any updates are available for the app.

2. Clear HP Smart App Cache

  • Go to your Android Settings > Apps > HP Smart > Storage.
  • Tap on Clear Cache (and Clear Data if necessary).
  • Restart your phone and try scanning again.

3. Check for Android OS Updates

  • Ensure that your Android operating system is up-to-date. Sometimes, OS issues can cause conflicts with apps like HP Smart.

4. Reinstall HP Smart App

  • Uninstall the HP Smart app from your Android device and reinstall it from the Google Play Store. This can help fix any potential glitches within the app.

5. Try Scanning with Different File Formats

  • Sometimes, the file format settings in the app may cause an issue. Try scanning to a different format like PDF instead of JPEG to see if the issue persists.

6. Use HP Print Service Plugin for Android

  • Try using the HP Print Service Plugin as an alternative for scanning if the HP Smart app continues to show the "scanner busy" error.

7. Check Network Connection

  • Make sure that your Android device and the printer are connected to the same WiFi network. Any interruptions in the connection can cause the scanner to become unresponsive or busy.

Refer to this document: HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28w Printer User manual

Reset the printer

Turn on the printer, then press and hold the Wi-Fi button for 15–20 seconds. The power button and warning indicator will flash simultaneously to indicate that the printer is restarting.

Check the power source

Make sure the printer is plugged directly into an electrical outlet, and not into a power strip or surge suppressor. If the issue persists, try using a different electrical outlet.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor   HP Print and Scan Doctor (Only Windows)

Download HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows or use Diagnose & Fix through HP Smart for Mac. Once the program is open, select your printer and click Fix Scanning

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
