Hi there @T-Clark, and welcome to HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out with your concern. I'm glad to assist you today.

If your HP printer's scanner is no longer recognized, here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Restart Devices

  • Power off your printer and computer.
  • Unplug the printer from the power source for 60 seconds.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Plug the printer back in and power it on.

Use HP Smart/HP App’s Diagnose & Fix Tool

HP Smart includes a built-in tool to automatically detect and fix scanning issues.

  • Download or open HP Smart
  • Open the app and click the Wrench icon (Windows) or Printer dropdown (Mac).
  • Select Diagnose & Fix and follow the on-screen instructions.

Check Scanner Connection

Reinstall HP Printer Software

  • Uninstall the current HP printer software:
    • Go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps.
    • Find your HP printer software and uninstall it.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Download and install the latest version of HP Smart/HP App.

Check HP Digital Imaging Monitor (Windows only)

If scanning from the printer control panel fails:
