Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

Microsoft Windows 11

My HP Officejet Pro printer no longer works for the scanning feature.  Is it because of needing to be certified by Mopria which it is not.  It is an early model.

Hi @TAC1966

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

You’ve noticed something important 👍. What’s happening with older HP OfficeJet/OfficeJet Pro models is partly due to Windows 11 changes and partly due to HP/Mopria certification.

Let me break it down:

Why your scanner stopped working

Windows 11 dropped support for some older HP Scan software
HP’s older “Solution Center” (Flash-based) and early scanning apps no longer run on Windows 10/11.

Mopria certification

Mopria is a newer standard for printing/scanning over the network (built into Windows 11).

Many newer HP printers are Mopria-certified. Older models are not, which means they don’t “auto-discover” in Windows 11 the way newer ones do.

But not being Mopria-certified doesn’t make your scanner useless — it just won’t plug-and-play automatically.

Driver/software gap

Without HP’s newer “Full Feature Software” or the HP Smart app, Windows can fail to talk to the scanner.

On some older printers, the print function works via built-in drivers, but the scan function won’t unless the full HP package is installed.

Things you can try

Check HP’s site for your model

Go to support.hp.com, enter your printer model.

Look for Full Feature Software and Driver (not just “Basic” or “Universal”).

If available for Windows 11 (or Windows 10), install it — usually restores scan functionality.

HP Scan and Capture app

Free in Microsoft Store. Works with many HP models that lost their old scanning utility.

Windows Fax and Scan / Scan app

Built into Windows 11. Open Start → Windows Fax and Scan or Scan app.

If your scanner is properly detected, you should see it there.

If only printing works (not scanning)

Uninstall your printer fully (including driver packages in Print Management → Drivers).

Reinstall using HP’s Full Feature package.

So, to answer your question: No — the Mopria certification itself is not the reason. The real cause is that Windows 11 no longer supports HP’s old scanning software, and your printer isn’t Mopria-certified to work natively without it.

If you tell me your exact OfficeJet Pro model number (e.g., 8600, 8720, etc.), I can check whether HP still has a Windows 11 scan driver for it — or if VueScan is the only option.

Would you like me to look that up for your specific model?
