Scanner is not working.  It sounds like it's scanning but just shows a blank white page, even though documents are either on the glass or the feeder. Is the scanner just broken?

Hi @Cheryl655 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing a Scanner not scanning pages, Before getting to the conclusion that the scanner is broken, let's troubleshoot the issue. Here are some steps you can take:

  • Check scanner settings: Make sure the scanner settings are configured correctly. Ensure that it's set to scan in color or black and white as per your preference and that the correct document size is selected.
  • Clean scanner glass: If there's any dirt or smudges on the scanner glass, it can cause scanning issues. Clean the glass thoroughly with a soft, lint-free cloth and some glass cleaner.
  • Restart printer: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix many issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a couple of minutes, and then plug it back in and turn it on again.
  • Update drivers: Ensure that you have the latest drivers installed for your printer/scanner. Visit the HP website and download/install the latest drivers for your specific model. HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 All-in-One Printer - HP Support
  • Check connections: Make sure all cables connecting the printer/scanner to your computer are securely plugged in. If you're using a wireless connection, ensure that the printer is connected to the same network as your computer.
  • Test with different software: Try scanning using a different software application. If you're using the default scanning software provided by HP, try using Windows Fax and Scan or any other scanning application to see if the issue persists.
  • Test with different documents: Try scanning different types of documents to see if the issue occurs with all documents or just specific ones.
  • Factory reset: As a last resort, you can try performing a factory reset on the printer. Refer to the printer's user manual or the HP website for instructions on how to do this.

I hope this helps.

I'm afraid none of the above work, I have tried most, so I will perhaps do the factory reset.......below is what I get each time I try and scan.

I have been looking on the HP website to find out how to do a factory reset on my printer but it doesn't seem to appear in any of my searches, can you help further with that?
