HP DeskJet 3772 All-in-One Printer

Hello, recently my printer scanner has been acting up. It worked a month ago and now it’s not acting right. I read to clean the scanner glass and I did and it still is doing the same. Below is what I’ve been dealing with when I scan, I don’t know if I can fix it or if I should just get a new printer. I’ve also tried to use the Print and Scan doctor but for some reason it says it’s unable to find software for HP Scan which is weird because I haven’t messed with any settings or anything in the app. Please help.

Hi @Savannah_22, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP DeskJet 3772 scanner is having trouble, and since it worked a month ago, there are a few things we can try before considering a replacement. Here’s a step-by-step approach to troubleshoot it:

Restart and Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Try scanning again.

Check HP Scan Software

Since HP Print and Scan Doctor is saying it can’t find the scan software, you may need to reinstall it:

  • Uninstall HP Smart & HP Scan Software:
    • Open Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program, find any HP-related software, and remove it.
  • Download and Reinstall HP Smart & HP Scan Extended:
    • Go to HP’s official website and download the latest HP Smart app or HP Scan Extended for your printer.
    • Install it and try scanning again.

Check Scanner Connection

If your printer is wireless, ensure it's connected properly:

  • Restart your Wi-Fi router.
  • Make sure the printer is connected to the same network as your computer.
  • Try using a USB cable instead and check if scanning works.

Scan Using Windows Scan App (Windows Users)

If HP Scan isn’t working, try using the built-in Windows scanning tool:

  • Press Windows + S, type Scan, and open the "Windows Scan" app.
  • Try scanning to see if it’s a software or printer issue.

Perform a Hard Reset on the Printer

  • Press and hold the Power button and Cancel button (X) together for about 10 seconds until the printer resets.
  • Let it restart and try scanning again.

Test the Scanner for Hardware Issues

If the scanner produces blank scans, lines, or distorted images, try:

  • Scanning a different document.
  • Using a different scanning mode (e.g., color vs. grayscale).
  • If scans are still distorted, it may be a hardware issue,

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
