My scanner stopped working, I click the scan tile and it says " Couldn't Connect to Scanner". I have not changed computers or printer. It just suddenly stopped working on Friday.

Hi @KansasCPA,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When your scanner suddenly stops working and displays a message like "Couldn't Connect to Scanner," there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.
Check Physical Connections:
- Ensure that the USB cable (if using a wired connection) between your printer/scanner and the computer is securely connected at both ends.
- If you are using a network connection (Wi-Fi or Ethernet), check the network cables and ensure the printer is connected to the network properly.
Restart Devices:
- Restart both your computer and the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148dw printer. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues.
Verify Network Connection (if applicable):
- If your printer is connected over Wi-Fi or Ethernet, check if it is still connected to the network. You may need to print a Network Configuration Page from the printer's control panel to verify its IP address and connection status.
Software and Drivers:
- Ensure that the printer/scanner drivers are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause communication problems.
- Visit the HP support website for your printer model and download the latest drivers and software. Install them on your computer if necessary.
Firewall and Security Software:
- Occasionally, firewall or security software settings can block the scanner from communicating with the computer. Temporarily disable such software (if safe to do so) to see if it resolves the issue.
Check Scanner Settings:
- On the printer's control panel, check the scanner settings. Ensure that the scanner function is enabled and that the correct scan settings are selected.
Reinstall Scanner Drivers:
- If updating the drivers doesn't work, try uninstalling and reinstalling the scanner drivers on your computer. This process can refresh the connection settings and resolve any software conflicts.
Test with Another Device:
- If possible, try scanning from another computer or device to see if the issue is isolated to one particular device or if it persists across multiple devices.
Reset Printer:
- As a last resort, you can try resetting the printer to its factory defaults. This should only be done if all other troubleshooting steps fail, as it will erase any custom settings you have configured on the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
