Scanner scans previous scan and not the item I have to be scanned now. I have unplugged printer and that did nothing.  I have ran the troubleshooter too.

Hi @CBK04,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your scanner is not scanning the current document and keeps scanning a previous image instead. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this and fix the issue.

Remove any documents from the scanner glass and ADF
Open the scanner lid and make sure there is no paper left on the glass or in the feeder.
Even a partially inserted page can cause the scanner to reuse the last image.

Clean the scanner glass and white backing
Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with glass cleaner or water.
Smudges or residue can cause the scanner to repeatedly capture the same image.

Restart the printer correctly
Turn the printer off using the power button.
Unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds, then reconnect and power on.

Restart the computer or scanning device
Restarting clears cached scan data stored by the scanning software.
This is important when the same scan image keeps repeating.

Close and reopen the scanning application
Fully close HP Scan / HP Smart (do not minimize it).
Reopen the app and start a new scan session, not a previous preview.

Clear scan preview before scanning
In the scanning app, click Clear Preview or Reset if available.
Old preview images can be reused if not cleared.

Check scan source selection
Make sure the scan source is set correctly to Scanner Glass or ADF, depending on where the document is placed.
Incorrect source selection can cause repeated scans.

Update or reinstall the scanner software
Open HP Smart or the scanner software and check for updates.
Reinstalling the software refreshes scan drivers and clears stored scan cache.

Test using a different scan method
Try scanning directly from the printer control panel (if supported).
If the new scan works there, the issue is software-related, not hardware.

Check file save location and naming
Ensure the scan is saving as a new file and not overwriting an old one.
Enable automatic file renaming if available in scan settings.

I hope this helps.
