@Chris9559, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If you're able to print from your laptop but are encountering issues with scanning because the printer status shows offline, here are steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

Check Connections:

  • Ensure that the printer and your computer are properly connected either via USB or that the wireless connection is active.
  • If using Wi-Fi, confirm that your printer is connected to the correct network and that there is a stable Internet connection.

Check for Errors:

  • Look at the printer’s display for any error messages and resolve them by following the onscreen instructions.

Verify Printer is Not Paused or Offline:

  • Open the Control Panel based on your operating system:
    • For Windows 10: Click Start, select Settings, then open Devices and Printers & Scanners.
    • For macOS: Open System Preferences, and then Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your printer and ensure there are no settings indicating it is paused or offline.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows computers, which can diagnose and fix scan issues automatically.
  • This tool helps detect connectivity issues and offers solutions.

Restart Devices:

  • Turn off the printer and your computer, wait a few moments, and then restart them both.

Update Drivers:

  • Ensure you have the latest drivers installed for your printer. You can download updated drivers from the HP Support website.

Check Firewall Settings:

  • Sometimes a firewall can prevent scanning functions. Check your firewall settings and ensure that your printer's scanning software is allowed through.

Check for Software Updates:

  • Run the HP software update utility to ensure you have the latest version of HP scanning software.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
