I am trying to scan an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper and get output that is also 8.5 x 11. Instead, on certain documents where there is blank space, the scanner cuts off the blank space which changes the size of the scan. For example, my letterhead has a margin at the top. When I scan a letter it cuts off the top margin and the resulting scan looks horrible. This happens whether I use the document feeder or the glass. I have tried changing every setting I can see that looks like it might apply but nothing seems to change. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi,
Thanks for using the HP Support Community.
Are you using the HP FULL featured software to scan or the HP Smart app?
Try using the HP FULL featured software.
Can you download and install the FULL featured printer software from HP for your operating system:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-color-laserjet-pro-m280-m281-multifunction-print...
Once you have downloaded and installed the FULL feature software, you will be able to print and scan.
Under HP Scan, there is an option to select Page Size. Select Entire scan area .
Reference these resources for use with your printer:
HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw Printer : Download & Install HP Full featured software
HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw Printer : How to scan using the ADF and Flatbed
Hope that helps.

Thanks for your response. I have the screen you posted so does that mean I have the full featured software? I have also set the page size and selected scan entire area. It does not solve the problem. I am using the scanner through PaperPort 14 but when I press "scan" it takes me to the HP interface (the screen you posted).

HI,
It may be that Paperport is not compatible with the HP printer.
Can you try to fix the output page size? Click on the "More" at the top right hand corner to get to the picture below and set the Output Page size.
If that doesn't work, can you try to scan just using the HP Scan instead of Paperport?
Thanks.

I came up with a workaround. I can use the HP Scan and I found how to have it direct the scanned document to my PaperPort desktop. It's a few extra steps than it should be but it will work. I have tried setting up the output paper size when using HP Scan through PaperPort but it does not seem to respect that setting. Thanks for your help!
