Scanner error cannot not connect to printer

Follow these troubleshooting steps:

 

Power Cycle Everything

  1. Turn off the printer, your computer, and the router.
  2. Unplug the printer from power and wait for 60 seconds.
  3. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  4. Restart your computer and router, then try scanning again.

 

Check Printer & Network Connection

Since the error suggests a connection issue:

  1. Ensure the printer is connected to the same WiFi network as your computer.
    • On the printer, go to Settings > Network Setup > Wireless Settings.
  2. If using USB, unplug and reconnect the cable.
  3. Try printing a test page to confirm the printer is online.

 

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows Only)

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP's official site.
  2. Run it and follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and fix issues.

 

Reinstall Scanner Drivers

  1. Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click your HP OfficeJet Pro 8130e and select Remove Device.
  3. Download and install the latest HP Smart App & drivers from HP Support.
  4. Restart your PC and try scanning again.

Check Windows/Mac Scan Settings

On Windows

  1. Open Windows Fax and Scan (search for it in Start Menu).
  2. Click New Scan and select your HP scanner.

On Mac

  1. Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Select your printer and click Open Scanner.
  3. Try scanning from there.

 

Scan Using HP Smart App

  1. Open the HP Smart App.
  2. Click Scan and select your printer.
  3. If the scanner is not found, click Add Printer and follow the instructions.

 

Check for Firmware Updates

  1. On the printer, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update Printer.
  2. If an update is available, install it and restart the printer.
