Scanner is stopping midway right after powering on the printer. Does not go back to original position. This problem is not allowing to print anything from computer as well.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 1515 All-in-One Printer is experiencing an issue where the scanner carriage stops midway, which is likely affecting both scanning and printing operations.
 

Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:
 

1. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • Check if the scanner carriage moves back to its original position when the printer powers on.

2. Check for Any Physical Obstructions

  • Open the scanner lid and check if there are any obstructions or debris blocking the scanner's movement.
  • Make sure that the scanner glass and the scanner bar are clean and free of dust or particles.

3. Perform a Hard Reset

  • With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and check if the issue is resolved.

4. Update the Printer Drivers

  • Make sure your printer drivers are up to date. You can download the latest drivers from the HP Support website by entering your printer model and operating system details.

5. Check the Printer in Device Manager

  • Open Device Manager in Windows.
  • Expand Imaging devices and make sure there are no yellow exclamation marks next to your printer.
  • If there is an issue, right-click on the printer, choose Uninstall device, and then restart your computer. Windows should automatically reinstall the drivers.

6. Try a Scanner Self-Test

  • Some HP printers have a built-in scanner test. You can access this through the printer’s control panel or the HP Printer Assistant software.
  • This might help diagnose whether the issue is hardware-related.

7. Check for Firmware Updates Update the firmware on an HP printer 

  • Go to the HP website and check if there's a firmware update available for your printer. Firmware updates can sometimes fix hardware-related issues.

8. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool. This tool is designed to troubleshoot and fix common scanning issues.
  • You can download it from here.

9. Perform a Factory Reset (if possible)

  • If none of the above steps work, you can try resetting the printer to its factory settings. This option can usually be found in the printer’s settings or through the HP software on your computer.
