HP Laserjet Pro MFP M127dn
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello

There is an issue with Windows 10 x64 OS and LJ Pro MFP M127dn scanner with USB connection. Printing is working fine, problem is only with scanning.

When I start scanning with HP Scan soft or Windows Scan then it starts loading and closes itself after 1-2sec without error message.

Already tried to google that problem and checked out lot of solutions from similar threads, but problem stays the same. Windows 10x64 have all the latest updates installed.

I checked out all related WIA drivers are working propertly, did full uninstall to all hp software, tried to create new local admin user and reinstall printer with latest drivers full solution..

HP doctor software said that WIA is not functioning (user canceled scan), but  all related services are running normally..

Also updated printer firmware to latest.

Im really out of ideas what to try next,  It was working okay, until one day it did not scan anymore..

Hey there! @MrJon_Jones, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand you have scanning issues with your printer.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Are you able to make a copy from your printer?

Is your printer connected to USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 connection?

Have you tried checking with a different USB cable?

I appriciate your efforts for trying out the steps before reaching out to us.

As you mentioned the scanner stops scanning and closes the window itself without any errors.

Try disabling the firewall on your PC also, update the windows to the latest version and check if it helps.

The scanner cannot be used through a USB 3.0 connection.

Try scanning using HP smart app on your PC and check if it helps.

Refer this article to know more information about using HP smart app. Link: https://hp.care/2hmgdBr

Try the steps recommended below.

Use the Command Prompt to reset the WIA dependencies to detect whether the print hardware might resolve the scanning issue.

  1. Search Windows for Command Prompt.

  2. Right click Command Prompt from the list of search results, and then select Run as Administrator.

  3. In the Command Prompt window, enter Net stop stisvc, and then press Enter.

A Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service was stopped successfully message displays.

  4. In the Command Prompt window, enter Sc config stisvc depend= rpcss/ShellHWDetection, and then press Enter.

A [SC] ChangeServiceConfig SUCCESS message displays.

  5. In the Command Prompt window, enter Net start stisvc, and then press Enter

A Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service was started successfully, message displays.

  6. Try to scan.

If the issue still persists uninstall the printer software from the root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software.

In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.

Select your HP printer.

Select Uninstall.

In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.

In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”

Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.

Type printui.exe /s and click OK.

Click on Drivers tab.

Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.

Select OK.

Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.

Close Devices and Printers.

Update the full feature printer software using this link: https://hp.care/2lFzhdc

Hi!

No changes have been made to printer, printer is using usb 2.0 connection.  Print and Copy functions are working just fine.

Already tried HP Smart app and it did not work either. I have not tried other USB cable, because Print function is working.

I tried already all the suggestions that you wrote here, so nothing new for me.

I've spent total like 6 hours for trying different solutions what I've found from HP forums .

All those steps that you wrote are nothing new  and Ive tried them already.

I suggest we try an NVRAM Reset and Setup the printer once again

Since these are crucial steps, I will send you the instructions in a Private Message

I haven't tried your NVRAM reset solution yet, because this printer is located 120km away from my office.

Another workaround would be to make this printer as network connected printer, will keep you posted how it goes.
