HP Recommended

Have a 9010 Laserjet.  Put paper on top and message came that scanner is stuck and not working.  Followed prompts to shut off and turn back on.  Get same message.  After pressing copy there is a loud clunk and then the message comes back up.  Should I proceed to try to correct something or just plan on trashing the product?
