Can print but not scan. HP Smart refuses to recognize the scanner in my Envy 6055e, which has been fine for 2 years. Have tried a number of things via Scan Doctor and Help and no change. Going in circles with HP contacts. HP Help does not recognize my S/N. Out of warranty. Ed

Hi @EdfromLI,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds frustrating to encounter issues with your scanner not connecting to HP Smart. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to try and resolve the issue.
Restart Devices: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues. Restart your computer, printer (Envy 6055e), and router (if applicable).
Check Connections: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer either via USB or over the network (Wi-Fi or Ethernet). Also, verify that the printer is turned on and ready.
Update HP Smart and Printer Drivers:
- Make sure you have the latest version of HP Smart installed on your computer. Update it from the Microsoft Store, Google Play Store, or Apple App Store depending on your operating system.
- Check for any firmware updates available for your Envy 6055e printer. You can usually find these updates in the printer's settings menu.
Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility. This tool can help diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. It will check for connectivity issues and driver problems.
Check Firewall/Antivirus Settings: Sometimes, firewall or antivirus settings can block the communication between the printer and the computer. Temporarily disable these software and check if the scanner is recognized.
Reinstall HP Smart:
- If the issue persists, uninstall HP Smart from your computer and reinstall it. This process can sometimes resolve software-related issues.
Reset Network Settings on Printer:
- On the printer's control panel, navigate to the Network or Wireless menu.
- Select Restore Network Settings or Reset Network Settings. This will reset the printer's network configuration.
- Set up the wireless connection again on the printer and reconnect it to your Wi-Fi network.
Check Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Service:
- Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Scroll down and locate the "Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)" service.
- Right-click on it and select "Restart". Ensure that its Startup Type is set to "Automatic".
Check Scanner Settings:
- On the printer's control panel, ensure that the scanner settings are correctly configured and that it's set to scan over the network if applicable.
By systematically going through these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the issue with your HP Envy 6055e scanner not connecting to HP Smart.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thank you very much for the savvy input. I had been able to solve my problem a priori , with a tip from a tech at the store I purchased the Envy printer. It entailed having the wrong printer selected in my computer's Settings that I had missed the first time around. (There was an extra printer listed that was redundant, maybe from original installing, and it had somehow been selected. I deleted it and have been good to go.. PS-The Envy 8055e has had no problems over 2 years under light use. Ed
