Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

HP 5200
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a Windows Laptop and a HP 5200 series OfficeJet. The printer has been working very well until recently. The issue that i have is with the Scanner button on the printer. I used to be able to put the document that i wished to be scanned on to the scanner and then press the button. Upon hitting the button the OfficeJet will ask if i am sure that the scanned item will go to my computer, and then i click okay. After which it will proceed to scan and it will be sent to my computer. Usually opens up Windows Fax & Scan with the scanned documents.

Now upon hitting the Scan document it just tell me to download HP Smart, Which i already have done to set it up. I have tried restarting the printer and re downloading HP Smart to no avail. I also reset the printer back to factory settings and resetting my network, still did not work.

The only time the scanner works is if I go to my printer and place the document in the scanning area, go back to my computer and then press scan, then walk back to get the document. Worked so well before, I have no idea why it decided to change.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Support Community.

Can you download and install the FULL featured printer software from HP for your operating system:
https://support.hp.com/sg-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-officejet-5200-all-in-one-printer-series/1409573...

Download from Software - Utility "HP OfficeJet 5200 All-in-One Print and Scan Driver and Accessories"

Once you have downloaded and installed the FULL feature software, you will be able to print and scan.

How to Scan to Computer

Once you have installed the software:

1. Click on the printer Icon (on your desktop) and it will bring up the HP Printer Assistant.
2. Under the Scan menu, there is a “Manage Scan to Computer”, click on that.
3. Make sure that you “Enable” Scan to Computer. Also make sure the tab “Automatically start Scan to Computer when I log on to Windows” is checked if you want to make this feature permanent. (the following video will show you how)

Hope that helps.
