HP Officejet Pro 7720, 7730, 7740
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi there,

I'm looking for a Scanner to scan paper size DIN A4 and DIN A3, mostly for text and technical drawings.

When asking a price-roboter for a cheap solution it tells me that it would be cheaper to buy a multifunctional printer like HP Officejet Pro 7720, 7730, 7740 than buying a "pure" scanner .....

I have allready an OfficeJet 9010, on which I foud it very confusing that it is possible to scan A4-paper with 600dpi, when placing it on the scanner-glass, but only getting a 300dpi resolution, when using the ADF. Very dissapointing, because I often need to scan with 600dpi because I have to zoom some details on the drawings....

So the printers HP Officejet Pro 7720, 7730, 7740 seem to be using the same scanning technology (please correct me when I'm wrong) and I would like to ask the following things:

- On the ADF scanning is only availible for maximum size DIN A4, right? Which maximum dpi-resoution is possible when scanning via ADF?

- Is it possible to scan duplex on the ADF?

- When using the scanner-glass: Which maximum dpi-resolution is possible for DIN A4 (black- / color-mode) and DIN A3 (black- / color-mode)?

I did not find anything about those technical data within the docs, and I did not find a way to ask hp-support directly 😞

Other manufacturer, such as ASUS are offering an pre-sales information-service for such questions!

So it would be great to get some help from another user or an hp-support-agent!

Regards

Joe

Hi,

Any current HP printer supports up to 300 dpi from the top ADF, 600 or 1200 DPI can be scanned from the flatbed glass only.

The 7720 and 7730 would not be applicable for your needs, it supports A3 printing only, not A3 scanning.

The 7740 printer supports A3 flatbed scanning, up to 1200 dpi.

The ADF supports up to Legal size scanning, and up to Letter/A4 duplex scanning, the max resolution for the ADF would be 300 dpi too.

Hi,

thanks for the very quick and detailed answer!

So the 7740 would meet my needs for scanning A3 with 600dpi .... but not scanning A4 with 600dpi from ADF.

That's too bad, because I thought I could kill two birds with one stone with one of those multifunctional devices.

Regards,

Joe
