  • When was the last time the printer was working fine? Everything works fine except when I try to scan from the automatic feeder.  All pages go into the scanner just fine however at the bottom of the page on all documents the lettering or lines drag downward or look as if it is strecthed.  Scannin from the glass works fine.
  • Are you facing the same issue when you make a copy? No
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer? No
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting? I have used the automated troubleshooter and have cleaned the rollers to no avial.
  • This printer has done this since day one.  My wife and I are Realtors and have had 2 8600 multifunction printers in our office.  I purchased this 8730 to replace one of our 8600 Printers and have regretted buying this 8730 Office Jet Pro.  This has been the worst product we have ever owned.
  • We are still using one of the old 8600 printers and it is on its last leg.
  • I have tried all of the standard recommendations for troubleshooting and nothing address the problem I am having.

Hi @ARR-2, I am the Mr.Robot. It looks like you were interacting with @The_Fossette, but he is out of the office today, so I'll take over from here.

I understand your concern and as you mentioned the issue still persists after trying out the steps.

Try updating the printer firmware and check if it helps.

Update the printer firmware using this link: https://hp.care/2GHPsCW

Also, try the steps recommended below.

Change the scan settings with HP Printer Assistant.

  1. Load the item on the scanner glass, in the document feeder slot, or in the automatic document feeder (ADF), depending on your printer type and features.

       NOTE:

Do not load photos in the ADF to prevent damage to the photos and the printer.

  2. Search Windows for your printer model, then click the printer name in the list of results.

    HP Printer Assistant opens.

  3. Click Scan, then click Scan a Document or Photo.

    HP Scan opens.

  4. Click one of the shortcuts that matches the file type and resulting action you want.

  5. Change any of the shortcut default settings in the right side of the window, if necessary.

       NOTE:

Available settings change depending on if you are scanning a document or photo. For example, the PDF File type is only available for document scans.

  6. Select Show scan preview or Show Viewer After Scan to preview and make additional edits to the scan before saving it.

  7. Click Advanced Settings or More to change settings such as quality, color, and default scan destination folder.

  8. Click Scan.

The printer scans the item, then a preview of the scan displays in HP Scan.

  9. If necessary, double-click the thumbnail image of the scanned item, then change any additional settings.

  10. Click Save.

    The Save as windows opens.

  11. Select the folder you want to save the scan to, change the File name if necessary, confirm the file type in the Save as type menu, then click Save.

If the solution provided worked for you, please mark accepted solution for this post.

Let me know if this works!

Our HP LaserJet MFP M426fdw scanner is distorting the image. It started about a month ago when using the doc feeder and now does it when using the flatbed. We have restarted and reset the settings on the printer, as well as, restarting the computer. What can we do to fix this??
