HP OfficeJet 3830 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP OfficeJet 3830 All-in One Printer.  When scanning with the automatic document feeder, the following error message appears when either the first or the second begins to move through the ADF:  "Scanner cover open.  Close the document feeder cover and try again".  This always happens whenever the resolution is set at 600 dpiIt never happens with resolution of 300 dpi or lower.  I have checked the ADF cover multiple times when this happens and always find that it is closed properly.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver software multiple times from the HP website with no resolution of the problem.  I use a wireless network connection from the printer to my computer but have tried using a USB connection with the same result.  I have also tried to run 600 dpi scans with the printer connected to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector, again without resolution of the problem.  Would appreciate any suggestions.  Thanks.

Hi,

The HP Scan software supports up to 300DPI for the ADF, therefore the error returns, any higher resolution is supported on the Flatbed Glass only.

You may try the 3rd party NAPS2 scanning app, for my experience the app supports higher scan resolutions using the ADF:
