macOS 11.0 Big Sur

Just updated Mac to Big Sur system and now can't scan. Get error message "you do not have permission to open HP Scanner 3"

Also got message "can't open application HP Scanner 3 because it may be damaged or incomplete

@bhwells, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

 

I understand you are not able to scan from your Mac. To assist you better,

  • Which app are you using to scan? 
  • Are you able to print?

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

 

Also, check for any software updates on Mac

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

 

Kindly perform the steps mentioned in this document to resolve this issue.

Please also note the issue will be resolved by a future Apple software update. 

Please make sure your macOS is current by going to Apple>About This Mac>Software Update.

Thanks but it didn't fix the problem. My local computer tech was able to get scanning function to work by doing it through my Mac, but not via the touch screen on the printer, which I could do before updating my Mac to Big Sur.
