Hi There Genius Techos, When I select SCAN on my printer why does Adobe Photoshop LAUNCH & why do I get message on printer screen saying "Connection Unsuccessful - The scan could not be completed. Make sure the computer is connected to the printer & then try again" This is a BIT WEIRD as the printer IS connected to computer as "evidenced" by "Select Computer" displayed on Printer Screen after I select SCAN option.
I have Successfully PRINTED from computer via HP Smart App, the following reports: Network Config. Page, Printer Status Report & Printer Hardware Info. Hoping "someone" can alleviate this "problem"
Cheers, in Advance.

Hi Kuroi Kenshi, HP Officejet Pro 8730. I've resolved issue of Photoshop launching however still have problem with scanning from Printer. Message says: "Connection Unsuccessful - The scan could not be completed - Make sure computer is connected to Printer & try again". All software is UP TO DATE. I've also checked other protocols & they are ALL GOOD.

Hi,
Thanks for the update and for sharing the details! I understand that while Photoshop launching has been resolved, your HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 is still showing “Connection Unsuccessful – The scan could not be completed” when attempting to scan from the printer, even though printing works and all software is up to date. Let’s go through a few steps to get scanning working:
1. Confirm the connection method
Make sure the printer is connected via the same method you’re trying to scan (USB or Wi-Fi).
If scanning over Wi-Fi, ensure both the printer and the computer are on the same network.
2. Run HP Smart / HP Scan
Open the HP Smart app on your computer.
Try scanning directly from the app instead of the printer control panel to verify that the connection works.
If it works here, the issue is likely with the printer’s scan-to-PC setup.
3. Check Scan-to-Computer settings
On the printer control panel, go to Setup → Computer Settings → Scan to Computer.
Ensure that your computer is selected and enabled for scanning.
You may need to reinstall or update the HP Scan software or driver from HP’s support site.
4. Restart services and devices
Restart both your printer and computer.
Sometimes the HP Scan Service or network connection needs a refresh.
5. Disable firewall / security software temporarily
Occasionally, firewall or antivirus software can block scan-to-PC communication.
Temporarily disable them and try scanning again.
6. Reinstall HP drivers if needed
If none of the above work, uninstall and reinstall the full-feature HP driver for OfficeJet Pro 8730.
Choose Full Software Solution to ensure all scanning components are included.
I hope this helps.
I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" Your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster! 👍✨
