Scanning Issue

I have a new HP Envy 6032e, which I am using via wifi.  All going smoothly until I try to scan from my laptop.  When  i press the scan icon every light on the printer flashes resembling a 70's disco and nothing happens?  the only way to stop this is to unplug the printer.  I am sure it's a simple fix if you know how?
