Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-in-One Printer

How do I get a scanning window that allows for 8710 scanner to detect photos?  I used to get this window when I double clicked on the 8710 printer icon and now I get a HP Smart scanning window which only allows me to scan one photo at a time.

Hi @Jra241,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing issues with the scanning window and want to use the default scanning interface provided by the HP printer software instead of the HP Smart app, you can try the following steps.

Open HP Printer Software:

  • Make sure your HP printer is connected to your computer and turned on.
  • Open the HP printer software on your computer. This software is usually installed when you set up your HP printer.

Locate Scan Option:

  • Look for an option that says "Scan," "Scan a Document," or something similar within the HP Printer Software.

Choose Scanning Preferences:

  • Once you find the scan option, you might see settings or preferences related to scanning. Look for an option that allows you to choose the type of scan, such as photo or document.

Check for Advanced Settings:

  • Some printers provide advanced scanning settings. Look for an option that says "Advanced Settings" or similar. In this section, you may find the option to enable scanning of multiple photos in a single scan.

Check for Updates:

  • Make sure your HP printer software is up to date. Sometimes, updates may introduce new features or fix issues.

Reinstall HP Software (if necessary):

  • If the issue persists, you may consider uninstalling the existing HP software and reinstalling it. Visit the official HP website to download the latest software for your specific printer model.

Use HP Scan Extended (optional):

  • In some cases, the HP Scan Extended software provides more advanced scanning options. You can check if it's compatible with your printer model and try using it.

Keep in mind that the user interface and features can vary based on the version of the HP software and the operating system you are using. If you're unable to find the desired scanning options, refer to the user manual for your specific HP printer model

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
