I have a persistent problem on my HP Envy 5010 all in one printer.

 

My printer is wireless connected and until recently was working fine but now when I select scan from HP Smart, I get the message "scanning is currently unavailable".  I have HP Smart installed on windows 10.  Sometimes it will not scan a page and gives the unavailable error.  Occasionally, it will scan a page but if I want to continue with the scan for a multi-page document, by clicking on the 'add' option, I once again, get the error.  Sometimes, midway through a scan, it halts and I get a different message "scanner problem" or "scanner not found".  Which message also suggests I restart the printer and try again, which I have done more than once.

 

The printer prints OK, so it's just the scanning functionality.  I have deleted and reinstalled the device driver and deleted and reinstalled HP Smart.  I have also removed the printer from HP Smart and reinstalled. I have checked that the printer firmware is up to date and it confirms it is.  

 

Any solutions to this problem would be appreciated.

 

Update - 22.08.22

I have since found that when scanning from the HP Smart App on either my Android phone or iPad I can scan multi page documents without any problem.  This seems to rule out a printer problem or any problem with my home router and points toward a WiFi problem with my HP Envy Laptop since I have checked out and changed scanner related software on my laptop. In hindsight I have found that when printing from my laptop I sometimes get a fault. This tends to happen in complex documents with perhaps tables and graphics but documents with pure text seem to work.  This could mean the problem is not just confined to scanning.  I can generally send receive emails to/from my laptop but I wonder if the laptop wifi communications begin to fail when dealing with more complex communications as above? I don't know how I can check that out?
