Hi @Kerry324,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I understand your HP ENVY 4520 printer is not scanning and you need software to use this function. Let’s go through a few steps to get scanning working.
Install the full-feature HP software
– Go to HP’s support site, search for ENVY 4520, and download the full-feature driver for your operating system.
– Make sure to choose the full installation, not just the basic driver.
Check the printer connection
– Ensure your printer is powered on and connected to the same network as your computer, either via Wi-Fi or USB.
– A stable connection is required for scanning functions to work.
Open the HP scanning software
– On Windows, look for HP Printer Assistant or HP Smart; on Mac, open HP Utility.
– Navigate to the Scan section to access scanning options.
Prepare your document or photo
– Place the document on the scanner glass or into the automatic document feeder if your printer supports it.
– Align it properly to avoid errors during scanning.
Select scan settings and start scanning
– Choose options such as file type, resolution, and color or black & white.
– Click Scan and save the scanned file to your computer.
Update or reinstall software if needed
– If scanning still doesn’t work, uninstall the existing HP software and reinstall the latest full-feature version.
– This ensures all scanning drivers and services are properly installed.
Alternative scanning option
– You can use third-party software like VueScan if your OS version isn’t fully compatible with HP’s drivers.
– VueScan detects the printer and allows scanning on Windows, macOS, or Linux.
I hope this helps.
