Re not having a "scanner bed" -- Why not allow the user to decide? It's my paper and ink. If I waste some getting imperfect copies, it won't be the first time. Warn me, if you like, and then make me the best copy you can. Also, in this attempt, I get an error message that the copying cannot be done onto a #10 Envelope. But I don't have #10 Envelopes loaded. I've got plain 8.5" x 11" paper loaded. Very confusing.

Hi,
Knowing your printer model will be much help, as there are many different printers...
At first I owuld suggest openning and closing the paper tray or reload the paper and evaluate the prompt on screen, I would guess it is configured differently and you may follow the steps on screen to change the paper size and type as the actual paper

I tried copying my passport on two different HP printers and got the same frustrating results -- HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 and HP OfficeJet 5740. BUT just now I tried again on both printers, and they both printed my passport fine! I am pleased, but completely mystified. I tried and succeeded printing both an open passport and an even thicker pamphlet version of the Constitution. In each case on each printer, the top part of the printer did not completely close because of the thickness of the item on the scanner glass. No error messages about being unable to print on #10 Envelopes, which were NOT loaded in either printer this time of before. I've used PCs and their printers for almost three decades, and had never seen anything like the messes of a couple days ago. Stumped, but grateful for your attention.
