Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended

Hi. I've just bought a HP4200e. I told the store assistant what I needed the printer for and she recommended this one and another brand.

I want to scan paper cross stitch patterns to save on my android phone. I also want to copy the chart and print them. I don't think this is possible with this printer. Am I missing something, or have I been mis-sold the product?

Sigh - Sales people say things, sometimes for good reasons and sometimes for reasons entirely of their own.

Considering what you need it for, this DeskJet might -- or might not - be right printer for you.

Entry level printers, regardless of brand, do not support some of the same features as do printers that cost a bit more.

For example,

  • This printer lacks a full service touch screen Printer Control Panel --
  • Copy options are limited to those options provided by the buttons (No Resize, for example)
  • The printer requires a larger margin along the bottom edge.  This might be acceptable though it does severely limit what it can do
  • Scan options are less restrictive than COPY though here, too, once scanned the content might not print at actual size easily.
  • Top Loading (paper) printers that lack an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) support limited scan features as compared to a printer that feeds paper from a tray for printing and can scan larger paper or scan  multiple pages (for documents) using the ADF.

Why sell a printer like this?

Personally, I am not a fan -- DeskJet printers do provide a less expensive, casual, print option for those not needing any of the fancier options or for those on a budget that cannot include more expensive tech.

If looking for an alternative --

Consider what you have as compared to what you want to do.

Perhaps take a look at the HP Envy line of printers --

Check for Borderless printing, a full service Printer Control Panel, Copy resize options, all small "all around margins".

A printer with an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) supports features not found in single sheet scan printers.

Perhaps contact your HP Store and speak with someone in Customer Service.

Ask about options, prices, features on printers in your budget.

Printers are one of the things where you do get what you pay for.

Pay more = Get more in features, options, and general ease of use

Printer - Margins

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Important

DeskJet printers do not support Borderless

and

DeskJet printers require a larger margin along the bottom edge of the paper

These limitations impact how content is printed on paper.

This DeskJet printer requires a larger margin along the bottom edge (1/2 inch).

Borderless PrintingNo
Print Margin Bottom (A4)12.7 mm
Print Margin Left (A4)3 mm
Print Margin Right (A4)3 mm
Print Margin Top (A4)3 mm

There is no software, firmware, or alignment that changes the larger margin requirement.

The solution to "chopped off" is to keep all data inside of 1/2 inch / 12.7mm on the bottom edge.

This limitation includes all text, images, page numbers, footer information, cells, tables, lines, other notations, and all file types, too.

Create your original document with 12.7mm ( 1/2 inch ) margins.

What to do?

One of the possible reasons for the partial print relates to the margins supported by the printer model / type.

Documents  - A general rule:

Make sure all original document content is contained within 12.7 mm margins, including all text and images, headers, footers, and page information.

Reminders

  • The printer lacks a Borderless option.
  • The printer requires a larger margin along the bottom edge.  Rotating the content merely moves the larger margin to the side or even the top.
  • Depending on the content type, the app or software used and other settings, there is no setting to force the content to fit evenly on the paper (matching margins all around).

What else?

As best as can be done -

Make sure the content is fitted to the paper on which it will be printed.

NOTES

To date, HP App / HP Smart - Mobile - lacks a "Print to Scale" option to print content at exact sizes or at some percentage of 100 %.  The app does include a Transform > Resize > option to "Fit" the content.

HP App / HP Smart-Windows Simple Photo Print- includes two methods:  Crop / Shrink to Fit -- When the content is meant to fill the space on the paper, either nor neither of these options might work well enough to produce the results needed.

HP App / HP Smart - Windows and Microsoft Photos work similarly to print photos / images

Adobe Reader (Windows) can be set to print a PDF document as "Shrink to Fit".
