HP Smart Tank 7301 All-in-One

Brand new HP 7301 inkjet printer/scanner, I have had it for two days.  Just started to do some scans and noticed that each page about 80% the way down the page has a horizontal distortion (see scan image below, line 38).  I have tried different resolutions, different modes (color, grayscale, b&w), different file types.  I tried two different scanning apps.  All has the same distortion at about the same place on the page.  I had a suspicion about what might be causing this.  When scanning the test page, I opened the lid right when I heard the page feeder mechanism grab the next page and looked at where the scan was from the underside of the lid.  The distortion appears to be occurring because the document feeder mechanism is probably slowing/catching/halting the page traveling through.  Has anyone else seen this.  I need to produce professional looking scans with a document feeder.  Doing this page by page on the flatbed and merging the pages would be very time consuming (can't find an option to scan from flatbed, page by page into one document).  I hope this is not a flaw in the printer/scanner design.  BTW: This distortion does NOT appear in the original document being scanned.  This needs to get fixed or I will return the printer.

Opened a case with HP.  The agent asked me to wipe down the ADF mechanism and scanner glass with glass cleaner.  I cleaned three times with a few scans between each cleaning, each time cleaning more thoroughly than the previous time, no change.  I was asked to copy the test document from the flatbed (no distortion), and from the ADF (distortion).  By copying using the printer-based function, this completely eliminates any possible issues with stuff outside the printer.  I made a better test page that has line numbers.  I can clearly see this impacts lines 37, 38 and 39 when examined.  Line 37 and 39 text gets a litter taller than it should be and line 38 gets shrunk.  This looks like a design flaw to me.  I will take the printer back to the store tomorrow and probably get the competitors tank printer.
