We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

Laserjet Pro MFP M281FDW
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I purchased 2 of these laserjet printers to scan documents. 1 works great. The second one while I am in the middle of scanning multiple pages of a document will all of a sudden just rest. The dispaly goes back to the main menu and the sacan does not save.

I returned the unit to Best Buy and got a replacement. The replacement is doing the same thing.

The starnge thing is one of the originals I purchased does not do this at all.

Any suggestions? I did not do any special settings on any of the 3 units when I set them up.

Hi,

Have you ensured your printer firmware is up to date?

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/FW_CPE_Consumer/M280_M281/HP_LaserJet_Pro_M280_M281_Printe...

What is the difference between the two printers? are both printers connected to the same network?

Any specific difference between the two? (e.g. a different router, another switch, etc.)

Is the printer directly connected to a wall socket? any power related problem may also cause a such.

I believe this is something related to your environment, the key would be understanding the differences among both partners.

There is zero difference between the printers. I went with the normal settings on them. Both are set up exactly the same way. same model, same settings.

They are not connected to a network. All I am using these for is to scan documents with multiple pages and save to a flash drive via the USB port. They are not connected to a computer or wifi. I have switched the flash drives to make sure that is the issue and it's not.

Both printers are plugged into the same surge protector. Power is not an issue. The 'bad' unit never loses power.

One fo the orignal ones works absolutely perfect. The 2nd original & replacement (3rd) are the ones that are having this issue for whatever reason.

The 'reset' has happened often enough to know there is not a distinct patter when it resets (number of pages of a scan, time, etc...).

Please try plugging it directly to a wall power sockerand check if it reacts the same while not connected to a surge protector.

May you see any difference then?

The suggestions you offered did not work and make no sense.

As my original post said I had 2 of the exact same models. Everything was the same on them except one worked and the other did not.

The power had absolutely nothing to do with it.

I did 3 different resets and updated the firmware per HP and same issue. Returned the unit to the retailer where purchased from.
