Is it worth asking to obtain for information than “An error has occurred” when scanning a document? It would be nice to know if the error is with the connection, something to do with the paper, something to do with the machine, SOMETHING! Just “An error has occurred” is not at all helpful.

This could be a communication related issue between the devices. We can try to isolate and resolve the issue.
- Are you able to make photocopies on the printer?
- Have you tried using Apple Image Capture?
- Did you make any changes to the printer or the computer?
- Are you able to print from the computer to the printer?
- How are the devices connected?

Eventually I was able to get the scan projects to complete, after many reboots of both the computer and the printer. Apparently the issue is with the wireless connection to the router so I have purchased a cable to connect between the laptop and the printer. The issues have somewhat subsided as a result of this purchase.
