HP Enviy 5538 All in One
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I own Two HP All in One Printer /Scan/Copy  Envoy 5530.  These are in two separate residences. Each one has the same problem with scanning as follows:  When I attempt to scan a document I keep getting a message that says Server Connection Error.......a

problem connecting to the server.  In my case the server is Verizon. I contacted them and from their remote checking , they said all was working well. They urged me to contact HP for a resolution to this difficulty.  Does anyone have a solution to this please?

Thanks

@Mrawlens, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I understand you are having an error while trying to scan. To assist you better,

  • Are you trying to scan to email?
  • Have you tried scanning to the PC and check if that works?
  • Make sure the printer is connected to the internet.

Check the scan to email settings on the printer EWS page

  • Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to obtain the IP address.
  • Type the IP address at the top of your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
  • If you get any security notification, click on show details/advanced and 'proceed to this website'.
  • Go to scan

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Kumar I do so appreciate your getting back to me.  I found the IP address and typed it into the browser. It gave me a chance to check for solutions and the  green bar was moving for a while. Then I get a message saying   "An error has occured...unable to connect with the Web services Server......However you might still be able to use some of the printer's web services features"

I had contacted Dell through on line chat and having given them my service product tag #, was told that the present laptop is obsolete, and that it should be replaced. Does that sound like a viable solution or approach to you?

Please advise and my sincere thanks to you for contacting me. In cyber world that is a most welcome occurrence. Be well and be safe out there. Marty

@Mrawlens

The age of the laptop has nothing to do with web services issue on the printer.

Kindly perform the steps mentioned in this document - Cannot Connect to Web Services

Also,

  • Are you trying to scan to email?
  • Have you tried scanning to the PC and check if that works?
  • Try to access the EWS page of the printer using a different browser and check if that helps. Ex: Google Chrome/Firefox.

Let me know how it goes.

Kumar I thank you for your concerned diligence.  I Have been able to scan from the printer to the laptop just not directly to email as I have in the past. It is typically to a **bleep** address that I have scanned in the past but having difficulties now.

What is EWS?    I do have Google Chrome on the laptop.  You suggested Accessing EWS? page of the printer but I don't know what EWS is please explain and how I can find the EWS page of the printer.

All that said I sincerely appreciate your efforts in trying to help me resolve this. I recently did purchase a new laptop and wonder if that will make a difference in and of itself.  Please give me answers to the questions above  and I appreciate you.

EWS page of the printer is where you can change the printer settings and check the settings for scan to email.

  • Look for Scan > Scan to email

If this does not help, please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region for further assistance.

You may create a case on the website to obtain a case number if required. Kindly watch this video to know how.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

Kumar again I thank you for your involvment in this issue.  I did type in the IP address but there was no securtiy notification. I was able to scan a jpeg to the computer and name it for future reference.  I am assuming I can then attach that scan to an e mail and send it which I will try.

However before the problem occurred I was able to see the e mail addresses by default whenever I clicked on scan e mail and it went directly to my e mail.  I want to get back to that convenience.  How can I do that?

You mentioned that if I continue to have problems with it , to contact HP Tech Support in my region? My region apparently is the United States. What can they do for me that you have not yet advised?

Also what do the letters EWS stand for please?  Thanks again

@Mrawlens

EWS stands for Embedded Web Server page.

Make sure you have tried the steps mentioned in this document too - Scan to Email Cannot Access Email Accounts

The HP Support team can take remote access and help in resolving the issue as we have tried all the possible steps.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
