I am scanning pictures to my computer, I do several and it just stops. I use the print and scan doctor and uplug the printer and reboot my computer. This happens every few pictures. What am I doing wrong or is something wrong with my printer?

Welcome to the HP Community --

Scanning is a fairly resource intense process.

That means scan uses a lot of your network resource.

While the job is open -- the printer must hang onto the data in the job.

Memory on Printer is small-ish:

Maximum Memory64 MB DDR1 Memory
Standard Memory64 MB DDR1

If you are scanning one job at a time - that is, Scan > Save > Start over > Scan > Save > Start over,

then the scan process actually closes between jobs.

If you Scan > Add page > Scan > Add Page > Scan > Add Page,

then all that data is "open" until the last page is added and the data is finally saved.

Many printers lack the necessary amount of memory needed for large jobs.

If a job collapses before the data is saved and the job is (therefore) closed, all the scan data is lost.

There is not a "not saved but sort of saved along the way" setting for open jobs.

What to do?

If possible, break the scan jobs into smaller pieces.

Check your network -- a weak, unstable, or crowded network might suffer when large (or even medium sized) scan jobs are added to the load already on that computer and network.  Reduce the load on the network when scanning.

Check your router -- a weak, outdated, poorly placed, or wrongly configured router can cause all sorts of woes in a high-demand network situation.

Use different Scan software.

What?

There are options - some are more resource intense, some are smarter, some offer better options.

Use what works best for the current task.
